Dermot O’Leary goes missing leaving Alison Hammond alone

Alison Hammond was left presenting This Morning alone today as Dermot O’Leary was missing – but he soon emerged in a tiny car as he drove into the studio.

As Lorraine host Ranvir Singh was ready to hand over to the pair, she was shocked to see an empty chair next to Alison.

The presenter explained that Dermot was running late and that he would hopefully be on the show soon.

Welcoming viewers to the show later, Alison was still alone as she said: “Hello, it’s supposed to be me and Dermot, this is really embarrassing.”

But soon afterwards, it emerged that Dermot was late because he was driving the world’s smallest car into the studio.

As he rode the tiny blue car onto the set, Alison said: “I can’t believe this, you’re so extra… you know what the weird thing is? This looks like your normal car.”

Waving hello to viewers as he managed to clamber out, he said: “Morning everyone, hope you’re well… we thought we’d show the world’s smallest and economic car!”

And viewers were divided over the skit, with one tweeting: “Cringe start of the show time #thismorning.”

While another commented: “Made me chuckle that.”

A third wrote: “Oh NO #ThisMorning.”

“Why are Dermot & Alison pretending that he’s not been there at the studios rehearsing all morning? #thismorning,” another joked.

Alison and Dermot are covering for Holly and Phil over the Easter holidays, as Kate Garraway stood in for Susanna Reid.

Richard Madeley joined Kate on the ITV show, though was criticised after questioning why rape was a weapon of war on GMB today.

The pair discussed the latest horrifying allegations that Russian troops have used rape as a ‘weapon of war’ against Ukrainian civilians.

The UK’s ambassador to Ukraine said yesterday she was aware of reports of women and girls being raped in front of their families, describing it as a “deliberate act of subjugation”.

Kate and Richard were joined by Chip Chapman, Former Senior British Adviser to US central command, who gave his analysis on the situation.

After discussing the heartbreaking testimony uncovered by human rights groups, Richard had asked: “Chip, we’ve said something that was widely reported this morning that rape was used as a weapon of war. How exactly is rape a weapon of war?”

In response, Chip said: “Well, it’s just trying to impose some sort of will upon the enemy as it’s mentioned in the Second World War, it’s absolutely horrific. And if you’ve got compromised morality […] with those with weapons you’ve got a lethal combination for the future. It’s absolutely disgraceful and people need to be taken to account.”

But viewers were not impressed with Richard’s question, with one writing: “Richard Madeley on #gmb has just asked, ‘How exactly is rape a weapon of war?’ ?????!!!!!!!”

While another commented: “Madeley, ‘how is rape a weapon of war?’ What a d***!!! #GMB.”
